Position Summary

The Fire Sprinkler Projects Technician is responsible for installing, assembling, and testing water-based fire protection systems for new construction, retrofit, and tenant improvement projects. This role ensures all work is performed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and code compliance, while meeting project schedules and customer expectations. The technician works closely with project managers, fitters, contractors, and other trades to ensure timely, efficient, and code-compliant installations.
 

Key Responsibilities

Installation & Assembly

  • Install and assemble fire sprinkler piping, valves, hangers, fittings, and related components in accordance with NFPA 13 and project specifications.
  • Cut, thread, and groove piping using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Mount, hang, and secure pipe and equipment per engineered drawings.
 

Testing & Commissioning

  • Assist in conducting hydrostatic testing, main drain tests, and acceptance tests.
  • Verify system functionality and ensure readiness for final inspection.
  • Document test results and deficiencies for project records.
 

Project Coordination

  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate work with other trades to avoid conflicts and maintain productivity.
  • Report project progress, issues, and material needs to supervisors or project managers.
 

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure installations comply with NFPA standards, local building/fire codes, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain neat, organized, and high-quality workmanship.
  • Follow OSHA and company safety procedures at all times.
 

Customer & Team Interaction

  • Interact professionally with customers, contractors, inspectors, and team members on job sites.
  • Support and assist senior fitters or foremen as required.
  • Mentor apprentices or less experienced crew members when needed.
 
 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or vocational training preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in fire sprinkler installation preferred (entry-level candidates with mechanical skills may be considered).
 

Certifications

  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification desirable.
  • NICET certification in Water-Based Systems Layout a plus.
  • State-issued sprinkler fitter license (if required by jurisdiction).
 

Skills & Competencies

  • Working knowledge of NFPA 13 and applicable local codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction and shop drawings.
  • Mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand and power tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
 
 

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, work at heights, and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Work in various environments including active construction sites and occupied facilities.
  • Willingness to work overtime and travel to multiple job sites as required.
