The Fire Alarm Service Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities of fire alarm service technicians, ensuring timely, high-quality inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of fire alarm and life safety systems. This role ensures all work complies with NFPA standards, manufacturer guidelines, and local codes while fostering strong customer relationships and maintaining a high level of team performance, safety, and professionalism.Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Direct, schedule, and support fire alarm service technicians in the field.
- Provide technical guidance and assist with troubleshooting complex service issues.
- Conduct ride-alongs, jobsite visits, and performance evaluations to ensure quality standards are met.
- Mentor and develop technicians to improve technical skills and efficiency.
Service Operations Oversight
- Assign service work orders, monitor job progress, and ensure deadlines are met. ● Review completed service reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Coordinate emergency service response and ensure proper coverage for on-call schedules.
- Manage workloads to maintain efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Verify that all service work is performed in accordance with NFPA 72 and applicable codes.
- Ensure accurate documentation of system conditions, deficiencies, and repairs.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA safety standards and company safety policies.
Customer Relations
- Act as the primary point of escalation for customer concerns or service-related issues.
- Work closely with clients to schedule service visits, explain inspection results, and provide repair recommendations.
- Support sales and estimating teams by providing technical insight for repair proposals.
Administrative & Reporting
- Maintain accurate technician schedules, time records, and job documentation.
- Track and manage service KPIs including completion rates, call-backs, and customer satisfaction.
- Coordinate equipment, tools, and material needs for field service work.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Technology, Electrical Systems, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of fire alarm service experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead technician role.
Certifications
- NICET Level II or higher in Fire Alarm Systems preferred.
- OSHA 30 or equivalent safety certification desirable.
- Manufacturer certifications for major fire alarm brands (Notifier, Simplex, EST, Siemens, etc.) highly valued.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong working knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable building/fire codes.
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documents. ● Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and service reporting software.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights or in confined spaces.
- Work in a variety of settings including commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities.
- Willingness to travel to job sites and participate in on-call rotations as needed.
